England Women vs India Women 2021, 1st Test Day 2: India women suffered batting collapse as England women in charge at the end of Day 2

England women and India women are facing each other in a one-off test. The match is taking place in the County Ground, Bristol. India women are playing a test after a long long time. The last time they took the field in the longest format of the game, was in 2014. The Day 1 of the test belonged to England women as they batted out the entire day. However, India women pulled back towards the end of Day 1 and had managed to contain England women below 400. In reply, India women had a dream start to their 1st innings, only to throw it away all. India women suffered a big batting collapse as England women in charge at the end of Day 2.

England women started the day at 269/6. They went on to add 127 runs before eventually deciding to declare. Sophia Dunkley (74) and Anya Shrubsole (47) frustrated the India women bowlers as they kept on piling runs at a brisk pace. Eventually, England women decided to declare once Shrubsole fell to Sneh Rana. Skipper Heather Knight remained the top scorer of the innings. She scored a 175 ball 95 to help England women reach 396/9.

The India women bowlers had a frustrating couple of days in the field. They had to bowl 121 overs and still didn’t managed to bowl the England women out. With the pitch offering a little bit of assistance to the spinners, the two spinners Sneh Rana and Deepti Sharma bowled 66 overs between them. Sneh Rana remained the most successful bowler with figures of 39.2-4-131-4. Deepti Sharma picked up 3 wickets to support her teammate. Pooja Vastrakar and Jhulan Goswami picked up the remaining two wickets to fall.

India women suffered batting collapse as England women in charge at the end of Day 2 :

Trailing by a massive score of 396, India women had a dream start to the chase. Opener Smriti Mandhana and debutant Shafali Verma scored as many as 167 runs for the 1st wicket partnership. However, once Shafali departed for 96, the batting collapse started. The India women batters fell like a pack of cards as they went from 167/0 to 183/5. At the end of the day, India women stands at 187/5, still trailing by 209 runs. Harmanpreet Kaur and Deepti Sharma are at the crease and their first priority tomorrow would be to negotiate the follow-on. In women’s cricket the follow-on can be enacted if the fielding team has a lead of at least 150 runs, as compared to 200 runs in men’s cricket.

Captain Heather Knight is having a dream of a game. After scoring 95 with the bat, she came in as the 6th bowler in the 1st innings and picked up 2 wickets conceding just 1 run in 6 overs. Natalie Sciver, Kate Cross and Sophie Ecclestone picked up a wicket apiece. England women are at a very good position in the game and they would look to put their foot firmly in the match when they takes the field tomorrow.
