Team India will face-off against England in a 5-match T20 series starting from 12th March, 2021. Prior to that, the two teams are locking horns in a 4-match test series. The T20 series will witness a lot of new faces in the home squad. Rishabh Pant returned to the limited-overs format as India announced the squad for the upcoming T20I series against England. The BCCI gave maiden call-up to Mumbai Indians stars Surya Kumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan in the T20I squad. They earned the calls after their spectacular performances in IPL 2020 and in the domestic circuit.
Pant was dropped from the limited-overs leg of the Australia tour. He made it back to the team after putting consistent performances in the Test format, in Australia, and in India. Meanwhile, Kishan made his way into the T20I squad on the same day he smashed 173 runs in 94 balls for Jharkhand in a Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Madhya Pradesh. With Kishan getting a call-up, wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson was dropped from the squad.
Maiden call-up for Surya Kumar, Ishan Kishan and Rahul Tewatia :
The most-awaited name in the T20 squad was definitely Surya Kumar Yadav. The promising batsman has been scoring runs consistently in the domestic circuit. But his performance in the last edition of IPL was the stand-out in his career. A lot of people were raising voice after him not getting included in the national team squad. However, the questions has been answered as Surya Kumar Yadav earned his maiden call-up to the national team.
All-rounder Rahul Tewatia also earned his maiden call-up to the national team squad. He smashed his way into recognition after spectacular match-winning innings for Rajasthan Royals last year in the IPL. In the fast bowling department, Bhuvneshwar Kumar made a return to the squad, while Jasprit Bumrah was rested.
