The Rajasthan Royals pulled off a stellar victory against the Punjab Kings earlier at Dubai on Tuesday. Punjab Kings were the favorites to win the game all along. However, Sanju Samson’s side stole away the match in the last over of the game, courtesy to the young pacer, Kartik Tyagi. The 20-year-old UP bowler defended 4 runs in the ultimate over, giving away just a solitary run and picking up two big wickets.
As it Happened
On winning the toss, KL Rahul invited the Rajasthan Royals to bat first. The Rajasthan openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Evin Lewis thus provided a good start to the innings, firing from the very start. The two soon put up a 50-run stand together within the powerplay as Lewis got out on 54. Skipper Samson was the next man in, but he could not stay long, as he got out for just 4 runs.
Liam Livingstone then formed a 48-run partnership with Jaiswal before he got out one short of his fifty. Mahipal Lomror came in and smashed some big sixes for his 43, as the Rajasthan batting came tumbling down at the end. From 166/4, the Royals were down to 185 all out on the last ball of their innings. Arshdeep Singh was the pick of the bowlers, picking up five wickets for 32 runs in his four overs.
Starting a tough target, the Kings were slow at the start. But the duo of Rahul and Mayank Agarwal picked up the pace as the game progressed. The two played shots all around the park, later putting up a century partnership together as Mayank reached his half-century in 34-balls. At the halfway stage, the Kings were thus cruising at 106 runs without losing any wickets, needing just 80 more.
However, Rahul soon became the second opener to get out on 49, after receiving lifelines on three occasions. Mayank also followed suit, as Aiden Markram and Nicholas Pooran took to the crease. The duo formed a nice 50-run stand but failed to take their side home. With just four left to get in the final over, young Tyagi did not allow the Punjab Kings to walk away with the two points.
Rajsthan Royals 185/10 (20) ( Yashasvi Jaiswal 49 (36), Mahipal Lomror 43 (17), Arshdeep Singh 5-32 (4) ) beat Punjab Kings 183/4 (20) ( Mayank Agarwal 67 (43), KL Rahul 49 (33), Kartik Tyagi 2-29 (4) ) by 2 runs.
