IPL 2021 M48: Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Punjab Kings, Match Report

1 Mins read

The Royal Challengers Bangalore bowlers pulled off a heist beating the Punjab Kings by 6 runs. The Bangalore boys thus secured their play-off spot with this victory, as they sit on the third spot with 16 points. Punjab, meanwhile, are on the brink of crashing out of the league after losing their penultimate game of the season.

As it Happened

Virat Kohli won the toss and chose to bat first. The skipper came out to bat and formed a steady opening partnership with Devdutt Padikkal. Crossing the fifty-run stand yet again, the duo were looking to go big as Moises Henriques struck. The Punjab all-rounder first picked up Kohli and the returning Dan Christian i the tenth over. He then removed Padikkal for 40 putting Bangalore in a bit of a bother.

AB de Villiers and Glenn Maxwell, however, had some other plans. The two star players of Bangalore thus put on a quickfire counter-attack hitting the ball to all the parts of the park. Maxwell also brought up his third consecutive 50 in 29 balls in the process. PBKS, though, made a comeback at the end as Mohammad Shami picked up three wickets in the final over, stopping RCB at 164 for the loss of 7 wickets.

Chasing the target, the opening pair of captain KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal gave a brilliant start to the innings as like most of the games. They soon brought up their fifty partnership looking to win it for their side. At the halfway stage Punjab were cruising at 81 for no loss, needing another 84 runs to win. However as they accelerated after that, the skipper lost his wicket.

Punjab went on to lose a string of wickets at regular intervals after that. Nicholas Pooran once again got out for a low score of 3 after facing 7 balls. Yuzvendra Chahal got him, Mayank and Sarfaraz Khan putting pressure on the Punjab batters. Although Aiden Markram and Shahrukh Khan tried to put up a fight at the end, they both got out as the Kings fell short by 6 runs.
