IPL 2021 M49: Kolkata Knight Riders vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, Match Report

2 Mins read

Eoin Morgan’s men pulled off a comprehensive victory against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, taking them one step closer to the playoff spot. The KKR bowlers delivered once again restricting the SRH batsmen to a mere 115 runs. A comfortable victory is what the Kolkata batsmen got at the end. Thus, a win in their penultimate game takes them to 12 points as they eye the top-four finish.

As it Happened

Kane Williamson won the toss and chose to bat on a slow Dubai track. Tim Southee removed Wriddhiman Saha in the first over itself, giving KKR a great start. The other opener Jason Roy also got out soon to Shivam Mavi after hitting a couple of boundaries. The skipper Williamson then formed a stand with Priyam Garg as he looked to attack hitting four fours in an over.

However Williamson was run out by Shakib Al Hasan after which only Garg was able to put on some runs with Abdul Samad. As Garg got out to Varun Chakaravarthy, Samad hit a couple of big sixes against the spinner. But Southee struck again removing him. Chakaravarthy also got rid of Jason Holder besides Mavi removing the dangerous looking Rashid Khan. In the end SRH could only put up 115 runs for the loss of 8 wickets.

On the chase, KKR started slow with Shubman Gill and Venkatesh Iyer. Although of a steady start, Iyer lost his wicket to Holder within the powerplay. Rahul Tripathy, the next man in, also got out soon to Rashid, putting Kolkata in a but of bother. But Nitish Rana and GIll made sure that the chase went on smoothly.

The duo played out some quiet overs in the middle before starting to attack as Gill reached his half-century in 43 balls. Gill, however got on 57 out bringing out Dinesh Karthik. Rana also got out to Holder on 25 which may have landed KKR in a pickle. But the finisher in Karthik took control of the chase driving them across the target with three balls to go, reaching 4000 IPL runs in the process.
