IPL 2021 M52: Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, Match Report

The Sunrisers Hyderabad registered their third win of the season they won against the Royal Challengers Bangalore by 4 runs. Although SRH are already out, this loss will greatly affect the RCB side. Virst Kohli’s side although in contention for playoffs, thus lost out an opportunity to make a top two finish, which will have given them a second chance to make it to the finals.

As it Happened

Virat Kohli won the toss and invited the Sunrisers Hyderabad to bat first. The Orange Army had a change earlier in their batting order as Abhishek Sharma came out to open with Jason Roy. Although of some initial shots, Abhishek got out bringing out skipper Kane Williamson. The captain played a sensible 70-run partnership knock with Roy, before getting out to Harshal Patel.

Priyam Garg formed a brief stand with Roy before SRH were in the middle of a mini collapse, losing three wickets in just 7 balls. Wriddhiman Saha and Jason Holder then played brief knocks in an attempt to take their side to a decent total. But Harshal did not allow the batsmen to break free and got both their wickets as Hyderabad could only make 141 for the loss of 7 wickets.

Chasing the target, the Bangalore men lost their skipper in the first over itself. Devdutt Padikkal’s partnership with Dan Christian was short, bringing out KS Bharat. Bharat formed a stand with the opener was also brief as Hyderabad kept on chipping wickets at regular intervals, and bowling the tight lines, not letting the batsmen to hit the big shots.

Glenn Maxwell’s partnership with Padikkal was thus crucial for the Royal Challengers as Maxwell gave them hope with his hitting. But Maxwell got run out, courtesy to Williamson, after which Padikkal also left. Shahbaz Ahmed and AB de Villiers gave a final fight till the last ball of the innings but failed to take their side home, as they fell short by 4 runs.
