The Kolkata Knight Riders posted a thumping victory over the Rajasthan Royals, in their last league game of the season. Eoin Morgan’s men thrashed the Men in Pink, first with the bat, followed by their bowling. With this victory, the Knight Riders are almost through to the play-offs, with 14 points and a far more superior net run rate than MI.
As it Happened
Sanju Samson won the toss and chose to bowl first. Shubman Gill and Venkatesh Iyer were the opening batsmen for Kolkata, who provided their side a steady start first up. The duo did not let the partnership break and played watchfully till the halfway stage when they were 69 without loss. From that point onwards, the Knights hence started to attack the Rajasthan bowlers freely.
Although Iyer got out, Nitish Rana came in and started hitting the shots. Rana also fell the next over, bringing out Rahul Tripathy. Gill and Tripathy played some wonderful shots as Gill posted his consecutive 50, before both of them got out. Captain Morgan and Dinesh Karthik thus provided the finishing touches to the innings, taking KKR to 171 for the loss of 4 wickets.
Chasing the target, the Knights struck in the first over itself as the Royals lost Yashasvi Jaiswal. Skipper Samson also got out on the first ball of the second over to Shivam Mavi. No batsman was able to provide any resistance other than Shivam Dube and Rahul Tewatia. Mavi, however, got the better of both of them as Lockie Ferguson also struck on three occasions. Ultimately, all that the Rajasthan side could manage before getting all out in 16.1 overs was just 85 runs.
Kolkata Knight Riders 171/4 (20) ( Shubman Gill 56 (44), Venkatesh Iyer 38 (35), Rahul Tewatia 1-11 (1) ) beat Rajasthan Royals 85/10 (16.1) ( Rahul Tewatia 44 (36), Shivam Dube 18 (20), Shivam Mavi 4-21 (3.1), Lockie Ferguson 3-18 (4) ) by 86 runs.
