IPL 2021 M57: Qualifier 1- Delhi Capitals vs Chennai Super Kings, Match Report

2 Mins read

MS Dhoni and his men pulled off a stunner to march into the finals of IPL 2021 on Sunday. Thus, it is the ninth time that the Chennai Super Kings have stepped into the finals. CSK are hence through to the ultimate clash on 15th, while Delhi will contest for it again on the 13th. It is only a matter of time, until we get to know if Dhoni’s side can lift the IPL trophy for the fourth time.

As it Happened

The CSK captain won the toss and chose to bowl, inviting the Delhi Capitals to have a bat first. Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan came in to open for capitals and had a fiery start. But Shikhar Dhawan was unable to continue for long, getting out on 7. Shreyas Iyer was also unable to put on many runs, as he got out on just 1. Axar Patel was the next man for Delhi as Shaw put on his quickfire 50 in just 27 balls.

However, the Capitals lost both Shaw and Axar soon, bringing out skipper Rishabh Pant and the big-hitting Shimron Hetmeyer. The two then formed an important partnership for Delhi, putting on the runs in the latter half of the inning. An unbeaten half-century from the captain, thus helped DC post a fighting total of 172 runs for the loss of 5 wickets.

Chennai lost Faf du Plessis pretty early on in the chase, as Robbin Uthappa filled in with Ruturaj Gaikwad. Both Uthappa and Gaikwad played steadily and did not let any more wickets fall in quick time. The duo hence put up runs at a good pace bringing up a century-run stand. Both the batsmen, meanwhile brought up their fifties, Uthappa in 35 and Gaikwad in 37 deliveries.

CSK then went on to lose wickets in quick succession before Moeen Ali and the skipper stepped in to handle the pressure. While Moeen Ali got the initial job done, it was vintage Thala Dhoni that got the things done for, smashing 18 runs in just 6 balls to take Chennai through to the finals of IPL 2021 with a couple of balls still remaining.
