An all-round performance from the Kolkata Knight Riders helped them defeat the Royal Challengers Bangalore by 4 wickets. KKR star player Sunil Narine, led his side both with the ball and bat, to seal the victory for his side. The Knight Riders will thus play Delhi Capitals in the Qualifier 2 on Wednesday, to lay their claim for a spot in the finals.
As it Happened
Virat Kohli won the toss and chose to bat first, hence coming out to bat with Devdutt Padikkal. Padikkal and Kohli gave a flying start to the Bangalore side, putting up 49 runs in the first 5 overs. But Lockie Ferguson struck back, removing Padikkal after which the KKR spinners controlled the game. The spinners did not let the Bangalore batsmen break free and hit boundaries.
Narine was the leader of the pack, picking up the crucial wickets of KS Bharat, Kohli, AB de Villiers and Glenn Maxwell. Meanwhile, Shakib Al Hassan and Varun Chakaravarthy complimented him by not leaking any free runs. Ferguson also struck again removing Shahbaz Ahmed and running out Dan Christian as RCB could only post a total of 138 runs for the loss of 7 wickets.
Chasing the target, KKR were off to a good start with Venkatesh Iyer and Shubman Gill. The duo hence put up 40 runs in the first 5 overs and were looking set to guide Kolkata to victory. But Harshal Patel struck to remove Gill followed by Yuzvendra Chahal picking up Rahul Tripathi. Nitish Rana then formed a partnership with Iyer before the opener got out to Harshal.
It was Narine heroics once again, who this time, hit three sixes on his first three balls to take the game in Kolkata’s favor. Rana meanwhile got out to Chahal as the game was nearing verdict. Mohammed Siraj struck twice in his last over to remove both Narine and Dinesh Karthik. But Captain Eoin Morgan and Shakib kept their cool to take KKR home with 2 balls remaining.
