Ireland is facing South Africa in a 3-match T20I series. The T20I series started immediately after the 3-match ODI series between the two teams. The ODI series was shared between the two teams as both won a game apiece. After the 1st ODI was washed off, Ireland pulled off a spectacular victory in the 2nd ODI. However, South Africa came back in the 3rd ODI and levelled the series. In the T20I tough, South Africa started in a comfortable way as the won the 1st T20I quite comfortably. Shamsi spun a web as South Africa prevailed in the 1st T20I. In the end, Ireland fell short by 33 runs.
Having lost the toss and being asked to bat first, South Africa put up a stellar show. They batted the whole 20 overs and accumulated 165 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. Aiden Markram top-scored for the Proteas with a 30-ball 39. He was ably supported by Quinton de Kock (20), Rassie van der Dussen (25) and David Miller (28). As for the Irish, Mark Adair was the most successful bowler. He picked up 3 wickets giving away 39 runs. Simi Singh was the most economical bowler, as he gave away just 19 runs in the 4 overs and picked up 2 wickets. Joshua Little picked up the remaining couple of wickets.

Coming to bat with a target of 166 to chase, Ireland didn’t got the start they would have hoped for. Star-opener Paul Stirling departed for 6 in the 2nd ball of the innings, and the collapse started since then. Ireland could accumulate only 38 runs in the powerplay, losing 4 wickets in the process. It was done and dusted by the 13th over, when Ireland was reduced to 88/9. However, the last wicket partnership showed some resistance and prevented Ireland from being bowled over before the stipulated 20 overs. Tabraiz Shamsi spun a web around the Irish batters as he broke the backbone of the chase. He picked up 4 wickets, giving away just 27 runs from his 4 overs.

The victory will give a lot of boost to the South African side after their shocking defeat in the 2nd ODI. Since that loss, they came back strongly and won back-to-back matches against Ireland. The two teams will again meet each other on 22nd July, 2021. South Africa will be looking to seal the series under the captaincy of Temba Bavuma, while Ireland will have to win the match to remain afloat in the series.
