Mayank Agarwal: Focused On Helping PBKS Win The Title

2 Mins read

Punjab Kings opener Mayank Agarwal is all geared up for another exciting IPL season, beginning on the 9th of April in India. Mayank Agarwal might have lost his spot for the time being in the Indian team, owing to intense competitions. However, he enjoyed a prolific season for Punjab Kings last year. The right-handed batsman highlighted he is not thinking far ahead and wants to do his best for the franchise in IPL 2021.

Mayank Agarwal, who opened for most of the tournament in the UAE with KL Rahul, slammed 424 runs in 11 matches at 38.55, maintaining a strike rate of 156.46. The right-handed batsman crafted two fifties alongside a hundred and held the Orange Cap briefly as well. The 30-year old earned opportunities in the One-day internationals in Australia. However, he could not make a mark. Agarwal could not notch up any significant scores in the Test series following that either.

Mayank Agarwal conceded that since IPL is a long tournament, he will make the most of his opportunities by helping his franchise win the title. While the 30-year old concedes he is not thinking about the T20 World Cup later this year at home, he believes a stellar IPL tournament always works. Simultaneously, he wants to make an impression on the selectors and throw his hat in the ring.

“IPL is a long tournament with so many matches. I will look to make the best use of opportunities and let my performances help my team win the title. A good show in IPL always works wonders. As far as the T20 World Cup goes, I am not thinking about it. It is still quite far. But yes, I would like to make an impression.” Mayank Agarwal told Hindustan Times.

The Karnataka batsman heaped praises on Punjab Kings head coach Anil Kumble, who he thinks has a sharp cricketing brain and knows Mayank’s game and his potential well enough. Mayank revealed that Anil’s inputs helped him do well in IPL 2020 and hopes to use his guidance yet again by spending considerable time with the former Indian leggie in the nets.

It is not just me who looks up to Anil bhai for several reasons. He has a sharp cricket brain and knows exactly what he wants from me. I will be spending time with him in the nets ahead of matches. It becomes a bit easy when you have a coach like him, who knows your game well and also your potential. His inputs helped me do well last season. I hope this time too I am able to absorb whatever he has to say about my game.
