Punjab based IPL side Kings XI Punjab have renamed themselves to Punjab Kings, prior to IPL 2021. The name change was on the cards for a long time. The team owners had previously sent requests for the same. However, the governing council of the IPL, did not accept their plea. But this time, there was acceptance. The owners also unveiled their new logo.
KXIP are one of the sides to be there in the competition since its inception in 2008. However, they have managed to qualify for the play-offs only twice. They finished third in the inaugural season besides topping the league in 2014. However, they lost to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the finals, ending up as the runner-ups.
Punjab Kings: The Core Brand
The franchise is owned by prominent industry personalities like Preity Zinta, Ness Wadia, Mohit Burman and Karan Paul. On February 17, the management unveiled their new name, alongside their new logo, that depicts the spirit of Punjab. CEO Satish Menon said that it was the right time to move the focus on the core brand.
Punjab Kings is a more evolved brand name, and we understand it was the right time for us to move focus on the core brand itself. The change in brand identity is not about changing our brand ethos but celebrating our oneness as we stand in a unit like a family. The new logo honors the liveliness and vibrancy of the brand and provides modern elements, while we stand out from the rest of the teams.Satish Menon
“We are much more than a team, but a family which has come together and built a connect with our fans through our relentless hard work. The new brand logo and name are an extension to our undying spirit of fighting against all odds and celebrating the true spirit of Punjab,” the Punjab Kings said.
