Rashid Khan believes Afghanistan has the talent to win the T20 World Cup

The T20 World Cup is scheduled to happen in October 2021 and a few teams has already started preparing themselves. Afghanistan is definitely one of them. The star-kid of Afghan, Rashid Khan believes that their team has a right balance of skill and talent to grab this World Cup.

Afghanistan might be one of the newest teams to play the game but it has not stopped them from dreaming big. Their journey in the game has been really inspirational so far. They definitely want to remove the tag of underdogs from their name.

Afghanistan’s journey so far

Afghanistan gained the ODI status in 2011 and have not looked back since then. They qualified for the 2015 World Cup and won their first game in the tournament by beating Scotland. In 2016, they made it to the World T20 and registered a memorable win over eventual champion West Indies. They have also beaten West Indies in a T20I series and were awarded the Test status in 2017.

And as Afghanistan keep moving upwards, their star man Rashid Khan has said that the entire country is expecting the team to win the T20 World Cup. The leg-spinner stated that Afghanistan have the skill, talent and just need the belief to achieve their dream. He is definitely the best cricketer of the team. The star-kid definitely has age on his side. He is just 21 years old.

“I think the biggest achievement [for Afghanistan] should be, right now, what the team is looking for, what the country is expecting is, to win the T20 World Cup, because we have all the skills, talent, and we just need to have that belief in ourselves that we can do it,” Rashid Khan told India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on the latter’s YouTube show ‘DRS with Ash’.

Rashid Khan stats

Rashid is having a pretty impressive stats. He is currently the World’s No. 1 T20 bowler and ranked 9th in ODI Bowler’s list. He has scalped 89 wickets from from only 48 T20 games, along with two 5-wicket hauls. He also got 55 wickets from 46 games in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Lower down the order, he is more than handy with the bat too as he has a Strike Rate of 125.38 in the T20s and 165.08 in the ODIs.

New players coming up the ranks

Afghanistan indeed have some good T20 players in their ranks. In Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi, they have two of world’s best T20 players. Mujeeb Ur Rahman is another big name from the country. Recently, as many as six cricketers from Afghanistan took part in the Caribbean Premier League 2020.

“Talent-wise we are so good, we have the spinners, we have the fast bowlers, we have the batting skills as well to do it,”

A few days back Rashid came into the news because of his claims of getting married only after winning the world cup. “I will get engaged and married once Afghanistan win the cricket world,” said Rashid in an interview with Azadi Radio.

Nabi, Rashid and Mujeeb will be soon seen in action in IPL 2020 which gets underway on September 19. Rashid Khan and Nabi will play for Sunrisers Hyderabad while Mujeeb will ply his trade for Kings XI Punjab.
